Georges Valley has had a longstanding and beneficial relationship with the Letaba Fire Protection Association. Fires pose a huge danger to farmers, especially in a rural area where forestry, grasslands, indigenous forests and farmland cover valley and mountain.
The National Veld and Forest Fire Acts of 1998 and 2001 and Amendment Bill of 2013 are the primary legislation regulating veldfire management in the country. The purpose of these Acts is to prevent and combat veld, forest and mountain fires. The Acts place an individual duty on every landowner where there is a risk of fire to take certain minimum precautions to prevent and combat fires.
